Biographical information

Erica Meltzer covers education politics and policy in Colorado and manages education coverage for the Chalkbeat Colorado team. We cover early childhood, higher education, and K-12 education, special education, multilingual learners (English learners), Colorado General Assembly, and several Denver metro area school districts. We are based in the Denver metro but cover statewide issues as well. Erica has 25 years of journalism experience, much of it in daily newspapers. She’s covered housing, courts, criminal justice, energy and water policy, local government, and more. Erica was a founding editor of the local news site Denverite and previously worked for the Boulder Daily Camera, the Arizona Daily Star in Tucson, and the Daily Herald in suburban Chicago. She was a Peace Corps volunteer in Paraguay, where she worked on health education and sanitation in a rural community.
