Biographical information
Ron Abo was born in Rupert, Idaho to Nisei (second generation Japanese American) farmers shortly after WWII ended. His grandparents immigrated to the United States in the early 1900’s from Hiroshima Prefecture, Japan. In the early 1950’s, the Abo family moved to Denver.Ron grew up in North Denver, graduated from North High School and went on to get a bachelor’s degree in Architecture from the University of Colorado at Boulder.
During his college years he was a founding member of Environment Incorporated, a nonprofit community design center. Later he became the Founding Director of the Denver Community Design Center at the University of Colorado at Denver.
He worked for several architectural firms in Denver before starting his own practice in 1976. He is currently principal architect of The Abo Group, Inc., an architectural and planning practice with offices in Lakewood, Colorado serving public, private and non-profit clients.
Ron is a 6th degree black belt in Tomiki (a sports style) Aikido, a Japanese martial art. He teaches adult and children’s classes at the Denver Buddhist Temple in downtown Denver.
