Rael Abenicio

Biographical information

Dr. Abenicio Rael is the new CEO/President of Scholars Unlimited. Dr. Rael has an impressive 20-year professional background in the field of education, demonstrating a steadfast commitment to educational equity and excellence. His expertise in fostering inclusive, proactive, and united workplaces contributes to an even stronger sense of community and collaboration.

As a third-generation Coloradoan, Abenicio’s roots lie within the Northside of Denver, and he takes immense pride in being a product of the Denver Public Schools system. Being the first in his family to graduate from college and attain a doctorate degree, Abenicio embodies the values of perseverance and achievement.

His extensive experience includes holding pivotal roles such as Chief of Staff at the Strive Prep charter school network, Executive Director of Equity and Inclusion at Front Range Community College, and Director of Latinx Student Services at the University of Colorado Denver. Abenicio earned his doctorate of Education in Higher Education Leadership for Educational Equity from the University of Colorado Denver, a testament to his dedication to advancing educational equity.

Beyond his professional pursuits, Abenicio is a devoted father of three, emphasizing the importance of family and community. He is passionate about creating a sense of belonging for all individuals and celebrating cultural heritage. In his leisure time, he finds solace in the great Colorado outdoors, engaging in activities such as fishing, hunting, and camping, often in the company of four generations of family members.
